In the admin you can create all the necessary characteristics for products. There is no limit on quantity, name of characteristics.
Characteristics are added universally for all products on the site, this means that the same characteristic can be re-used for any product and any category, without the need to create multiple identical characteristics.
There are no values attached to the characteristics, which allows you to use one characteristic for each product, but with different values.
You can create characteristics in the admin from 2 different places:
- directly from the main page - module "Name of characteristics"
- from the product page itself
Principle of creating characteristics
If you want to start by creating an entire list of unique characteristics so that you can simply attach them to products, you can use the “Name of characteristics” module on the main admin page. By opening this module, you can view the entire list of existing characteristics.
- In the upper right corner there is a button: "+ Add Name of characteristics" - click it
- Information fields appear for filling out
- Characteristic : the name of the characteristic itself; filled in for each site language
- Description : a brief description for this characteristic; will be displayed on the site when you hover over the “I” icon next to the name; filled in for each site language
- Position: you can specify under which queue the characteristic is displayed on the product page; filled with numbers from 1 to infinity
- Hide: a checkbox that allows you to hide a characteristic on the site
- Type Characteristics: you can select one type from the list; will affect the display of characteristics in category filters (still in progress)
- Unit of measurement: you can specify the units of measurement that will be associated with this characteristic and added along with the value on the website (still in progress)
- Required fields are: *Characteristics *Position
- After filling out all the fields, save the new characteristic below on the page. Now, this characteristic has appeared in the general list, and you can also add it to the product itself.
Creating characteristics at the product level
During the process of adding a product, it is also possible to create new characteristics directly from the product page, without having to go out, create a characteristic and return to the product to select.
To create characteristics from a product page, you need to implement the following steps:
- open the desired product to which you need to add a new characteristic
- go to the tab "Product characteristics"
- there is a field “*Characteristics a*”: it allows you to select existing characteristics from the list
- to the right of this field there is a button with “+”: click to create a new characteristic
- the same fields open as in the previous scenario
- fill in all the required fields and save
- a new feature has been automatically added to this product
- We fill in the value for the characteristics and we can save the change to the product below on the page.
